Mrs. Ursula Thompson is a new teacher at Foley High School this year, teaching English and Creative Writing on the 500 hallway.
What classes do you teach now, and what did you teach before you came to Foley?
Currently, I teach one 9th Grade English class, five 10th Grade English classes, and one Creative Writing class. Before coming to Foley, I taught 10th and 11th grade Reading and an 11th Grade Leadership Class.
What school did you teach at before?
I started my teaching career at Escambia High School in Pensacola, FL. I was there for seven years, but I got the opportunity to teach at my alma mater, Tate High School in Cantonment, FL, just north of Pensacola. I was there the past 14 years before moving to Foley in July.
Where is your hometown? What high school did you graduate from?
I am from Cantonment, and I graduated from Tate. I loved getting to return there and teach. My husband is from Foley and graduated from Foley High School, so I’m also excited to now be teaching at his alma mater.
What college did you attend, and what did you get a degree in?
I received my Associates Degree in 1992 from Pensacola Junior College. I then went to Florida State University and then moved back to finish my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Florida in 1994. I went back to school and received my Master’s degree in 2009 from the American College of Education.
Do you have any hobbies that you engage in when you’re not at work?
I love to be with my family. Soccer is my family’s love, so I have tried to be an enthusiastic soccer mom for many years. I love the sport, and I love going to the games.
Is there a trip you have always wanted to take? Who all would you take with you?
I have never been on a cruise, so I would definitely enjoy getting to go on one. I would love to go to the Caribbean or some other tropical paradise. I would take all of my family with me!
What is something you want to accomplish in the next five years?
Having just moved to Foley, I want to become familiar with the community and then hope to get involved in several activities here at school and/or within the community of Foley.
We’re always excited to have new teachers come to Foley High School. Best wishes to Mrs. Thompson!
