What is a wood lathe and how did does it work?
A wood lathe is a machine tool that rotates the work piece on its axis to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation, facing, turning, with tools that are applied to the work piece to create an object with symmetry about an axis of rotation.
One of my grandfather’s hobbies include making things on this machine. He sits outside in his shop nearly everyday and makes bowls, jars, flower vases, flowers, and many more interesting things. Our entire counter is just about full of his creations. I find the stuff he makes pretty cool, and wanted to share some pictures of his wood work.
Here are a few pictures of some of his wood work.
He works out in his shop at least four hours every day making new things. He started making this stuff about 6 months ago, when he finally figured out what that old machine was just sitting in the shed rotting away. Now the machine has became a part of his everyday routine.
My grandfather claims that he isn’t any good yet, but I definitely beg to differ.
