I have always loved reading, and recently decided to look for reasons why its good and/or healthy for you. Here are 10 reasons why you should read more books.
It improves your concentration and focus
Being fully engaged in a book involves closing off the outside world and immersing yourself into the text (which over time will strengthen your attention span).
Reading can help you relax
It’s a good way to kick back and let the stress of the day disappear as you read about your favorite character getting themselves into a sticky situation.
It improves your verbal communication skills
Reading can increase your vocabulary, which helps when trying to have a conversation with someone. It makes you more interesting.
Reading before bed can help you sleep better
By reading before bed every night, it starts to become a signal to your body letting it know it’s time to wind down.
It can improve your writing skills
Your writing skills will improve much like your verbal skills. By reading, you get to observe different ways to help yourself and your writing.
It can improve your imagination
Reading books also makes you have to imagine what the world in that book looks like, thus improving your imagination by opening up all kinds of possibilities. The words in a book are often the portal to another place.
Reading improves your self-discipline
To make the most of a book, you have to read every page, not just skim through it. Reading helps you keep up with consistency.
It improves your memory
When reading, you have time to stop and actually think about what you’ve read. When you stop or pause you are actually giving yourself time to memorize what just happened. Basically, your memory starts to become impeccable.
Reading inspires you
When you read a book that just leaves you breathless and excited. You are possibly thinking about all kinds of things and sometimes the impossible doesn’t seem so impossible.
Reading makes you smarter
I guess you could say reading is like exercising your brain. Books comes in all kinds of different genres and each with a new learning experience, they teach us lessons and show us different cultures. Reading a good book increase the blood flow and brain connectivity. Honestly though, books are absolutely amazing.
