Most people think that the choice of diet soda over regular soda makes for a wise decision when it comes to their health. It doesn’t. In fact, in more than one way, diet soda is actually worse for you than regular soda. There are risks every health conscious person should be aware of in choosing diet sodas.
The artificial sweeteners included in each diet drink have been linked to increased weight gain and risk of heart attack by almost every study conducted since diet drinks first came out, and in recent studies has also been proven to lead to headaches.
Diet drinks also have been connected with increased risk of contracting type 2 diabetes. When you drink it, it’s true that you can’t be drinking anything too bad for you but you also are not consuming anything good for you either. Health. Health.com reports, “A case study of research published in the journal General Dentistry compared the mouths of a cocaine user, a methamphetamine user, and a habitual diet-soda drinker. Researchers found the same level of tooth erosion in each of them.
Health.com further indicates, “A recent study presented at a the American Academy of Neurology meeting found that over the course of 10 years, people who drank more than four cups or cans of soda a day were 30% more likely to develop depression than those who steered clear of sugary drinks.”
Everyone should do their part to live a healthier lifestyle. Being healthy starts with knowing just what is healthier for you and what isn’t. I can only hope that this bit of information has made someone out there think more closely about their health choices.
