In this month’s newsletter I want to talk with you about Career Cruising.
Career Cruising is an awesome tool for you to have because you can do several things to help you better prepare for now and the future. Career Cruising is an Internet-based career exploration and planning tool you can use to explore career and college options and develop a career plan. Now we all need that kind of tool, don’t we?
Features of the program include:

Career Profiles– thorough and up-to-date information about hundreds of different occupations, including direct links between careers and college programs.
Multimedia Interviews– interviews with real people in each occupation, which add depth and realism to career profiles
College and Financial Aid Information– comprehensive college and financial aid information, with a number of useful search tool to help students find the right college and the right scholarships
Career Portfolio– available online, so students develop their education and career plans.
Resume Builder– integrated with the portfolio to help students format and print professional looking resumes quickly and easily.
In this newsletter I want us to become familiar with this tool and begin to use it weekly if not daily. Do you know what you want for yourself after you graduate from high school? Most of us don’t even have a clue. That’s where this tool comes into play.
Last year each of you was given a card with your user ID and Password on it. Let’s get that card out and login to the site and do your interest inventory and skills assessment. By doing this, you will get a pretty good idea of what your interest are and then you can do some research on the career that interest you. You can research how much money you could make, the type of education you would have to get and possibly where you might have to live. After completing your interest inventory and skills assessment why not go ahead and look over your 4-year plan. Oh, you say you haven’t done that yet, that’s not a problem!
Let’s do it now so in the Spring when it is time to register for your senior year you will be prepared. All you do is look on the left side of the screen and click on “choose your courses.” Once there, you can see what classes you took in the 9th, grade, 10th grade and even now and the grades you made are there also.
So let’s get busy and have these two features complete within the next two weeks. I will be coming to see you in your classes soon and this will make my visit with you most helpful.
